Hours & Schedule

Open Shop runs Tuesday evenings from 6:30–9:30 PM. Women’s Night started again on May 14 and runs bi-weekly from 6:30–9:00 PM.

Please check the schedule before visiting. We may occasionally open the shop on Sundays, close due to inclement weather or holidays, or have to cancel if we do not have enough volunteers. Women’s Night may also be cancelled if the people running it are unavailable.

Learn. Repair. Ride.

The Orioles Bike Cage is a program of Valour Community Centre, founded in 2009. The Bike Cage uses recycled bikes, donated parts, tools, and volunteer knowledge to support active transportation in Winnipeg.

We teach repairs

We are not a traditional repair shop. Our volunteers guide you through the repair process so the tools stay in your hands and you leave with more confidence.

Tools and used parts

Visitors can access tools, guidance, and a stock of recycled bike parts to help with common repairs and maintenance.

Skilled, but small

We can help with many bike issues, but some repairs may be beyond our scope. When that happens, we will recommend trusted local shops or resources.

Volunteer With Us

Volunteers help keep the Bike Cage running. You can expect to interact with the public, get a little dirty, build your repair skills, and become part of Winnipeg’s bike community.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping visitors with bike questions
  • Repairing and rebuilding donated bikes
  • Sorting parts and organizing the space
  • Supporting community events and fundraisers
  • Learning hands-on from other volunteers

Donate Bikes, Parts or Supplies

Orioles Bike Cage operates as a by-donation service. Cash, in-kind donations, old bikes, used parts, and repair supplies help keep the program accessible.

We accept bikes in many conditions. Donated bicycles are recycled back into the community through repairs, rebuilds, parts reuse, and sales when possible.

Helpful donation items

  • Old bikes and bike parts
  • Rags or old clothing
  • Brushes and toothbrushes
  • Scrub pads and steel wool
  • Plastic bags
  • Twist ties, elastic bands, and electrical tape
  • Sandpaper or emery cloth

Common Questions

Can you fix my bike for me?

We can perform repairs for you, teach you how to make repairs yourself, or provide access to a repair stand and tools if you're already comfortable doing it on your own.

Do you sell bikes?

Yes, when refurbished donated bikes are available. Sales are reasonably priced, and funds go back into supporting the Bike Cage.

Do you give bikes away?

Bike availability varies. We do our best to help people access bikes when we can, especially when availability and community need line up. Some refurbished bikes are sold at reasonable prices to support the program, and other arrangements are handled on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us or ask during open shop.

Are you open in winter?

We're open year-round on Tuesday evenings. However, we may close due to inclement weather, Christmas holidays, or if we don't have enough volunteers. Please check our schedule for the most up-to-date information.

Can I donate an old bike?

Yes. Donated bikes help keep the program running and allow bikes and parts to be recycled back into the community.
