What the Board of Directors Does
At Valour Community Centre Inc., the Board of Directors is a team of volunteer leaders, elected at the Annual General Meeting, who guide and govern our organization’s direction and community impact. Their key responsibilities include:
Role & Mission Leadership
Board members embrace and promote Valour’s vision of inclusive, vibrant programming across the Clifton, Isaac Brock, and Orioles sites.
They stay informed on community needs and sector trends to keep programming responsive and relevant.
Governance & Compliance
The Board ensures Valour follows its constitution, bylaws, policies, and legal obligations.
They monitor financial health, manage conflicts of interest, and uphold confidentiality standards.
Strategic Direction & Planning
he Board leads long-term planning, aligning Valour’s programs and facilities with evolving community needs.
Working with staff, they develop and approve annual budgets, ensuring sustainable operations and resource use.
Leadership & Operations
The Board appoints a President, Vice‑President of HR, and other directors who oversee specific program areas.
* The President acts as CEO, chairing meetings, liaising with City/GCWCC, signing documents, and leading policy development.
* The Vice‑President (HR) supports staffing processes, performance evaluations, and supervision with the Manager.
* The Treasurer oversees the community centre’s finances, ensuring accurate records, budget planning, and financial accountability.
* The Secretary maintains official records and meeting minutes, supporting clear communication and organized documentation for the board.
* Program Directors: Each program (hockey, soccer, volleyball, boxing, bike cage, etc.) has a dedicated Director who manages day-to-day operations, ensures records are maintained, liaises with associations, and reports to the Board.
Meetings & Commitment
Regular meetings: Directors meet once a month and review agendas, financials, and reports. Any decisions and discussions surrounding financials and programming will be discussed and voted on at these monthly meetings.
Community & Partnerships
The City of Winnipeg & GCWCC liaison: The Board works closely with the City of Winnipeg, GCWCC, and community partners to secure funding, grants, and strategic support.
Voice for community: Serving as elected representatives, Directors elevate local perspectives and needs to Valour’s decision-making tables
